1948年東京生まれ。1977年東京大学大学院人文科学研究科博士課程単位取得退学。東京大学文学部宗教学宗教史学科教授、同大学院人文社会系研究科教授、上智大学大学院実践宗教学研究科研究科長、同グリーフケア研究所所長を経て、現在、大正大学客員教授、龍谷大学客員教授、上智大学グリーフケア研究所客員所員、NPO東京自由大学学長、東京大学名誉教授。主な著書に、『宗教学の名著30』(筑摩書房、2008年)、『国家神道と日本人』(2010年、岩波書店)、『日本人の死生観を読む』(2012、朝日新聞出版)、『現代宗教とスピリチュアリティ』(2012、弘文堂)、『宗教を物語でほどく』(2016年、NHK出版)、『ともに悲嘆を生きる』(2019、朝日新聞出版)、『新宗教を問う』(2020、ちくま新書)、『戦後日本と国家神道』(2022年、岩波書店)、『教養としての神道』(東洋経済新報社、2022年)、『なぜ「救い」を求めるのか』(2023、NHK出版)、『死生観を問う』(2023、朝日新聞出版)。
Susumu Shimazono
Born in Tokyo in 1948. After completing coursework in the Doctoral Program in the Graduate School of Humanities at the University of Tokyo in 1977, he left the program. He has held various academic positions, including Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and the History of Religions at the University of Tokyo, Professor in the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology at the same university, Director of the Graduate School of Practical Religious Studies and the Grief Care Institute at Sophia University, and is currently a Visiting Professor at Taisho University, Visiting Professor at Ryukoku University, Visiting Researcher at the Sophia University Grief Care Institute, President of the NPO Tokyo Free University, and Emeritus Professor at the University of Tokyo.
